Women's Clothing Specialist

As a women's clothing specialist, I work in the areas of fashion, sportswear, accessories, athletic, and yoga on the sales floor. With so much area to cover, there is a lot of product knowledge I am responsible to know in order to provide the right product for the customer. Communication is a key aspect of my role as I am constantly engaging in conversation with customers to build a relationship and help them find what they want or need. I also must also have good communication with my co-workers and supervisors.

Retail Merchandising Intern

This summer I had the pleasure of completing a Retail Merchandising internship with Scheels in their corporate office located in Fargo, ND. I was placed with Carrie Shappell the line leader (buyer) for Women’s Fashion, Women’s Sportswear, and Women’s Fashion Accessories and had a desk in her office. My responsibilities included attending all line viewings for Women’s Fashion, Women’s Sportswear, and Women’s Fashion Accessories where I would help give input on what products would be in demand for upcoming seasons, help merchandise our assortment, and takes notes on our selection. I was also responsible for reaching out to vendors within the shops I was working in with any questions regarding product or orders. A large responsibility I had daily was to type Blank Stock Inventory (BSI) programs which was Scheel’s personal order form. Often times, especially with jewelry vendors or smaller orders, I would also write quantities for the order and assign product levels to stores. To do this, I had to run sell through reports and pivot tables to retrieve the correct data to analyze to determine which items are selling best and ensure we are ordering the write quantities of the right product for Scheels. I also was tasked with doing a lot of work for the Fashion and Athletic Sales Training (FAST University) event held this summer. For this event, I was in charge of the inventory of seeding samples, communicating with vendors regarding their samples, packing all the SWAG bags, teaching employees on new Lucky product, and preparing a report on the Product Knowledge meeting ideas that were given at the event.
